“ Don’t take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. ”

Alex Nieto was a beloved member of the community who was killed by an SFPD officer on March 21, 2014 in his gentrified neighborhood of Bernal Heights. A jogger called 911 when they spotted Alex walking in the park with a holstered taser which he needed for his night job as a security guard. When the police arrived they surrounded Alex and shot him 14 times killing him instantly. A witness claims the police never warned Alex to put his “weapon” down.       This is a perfect example of the culture clash happening in many neighborhoods throughout SF. Bernal Heights is ranked as the hottest neighborhood in the country for homebuyers where long time residents are being forced out due to high rent. Gentrification in these barrios is not only forcing out families but it is also causing these people to become profiled as threats to the community and victims of police violence. Gentrification = Police Brutality for black and brown people in the hood. Please SHARE!

In October of 2013, Andy Lopez who was just 13 years old was shot to death by Sonoma County Sheffis Deputy Erick Gelhaus. Andy was walking to a friends house carrying a toy gun designed to look like an AK-47. After being spotted by the police, they stopped and told him to drop his gun. Without allowing him enough time to properly react to the deputy’s orders, Andy was shot 7 times killing him atthe scene. It has been revealed that the deputy, Erick Gelhaus has a history of using excessive force and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s office was aware of it. He is also a firearms instructor who has been accused of having “racist and extremist tendencies and beliefs”. Last week Andy Lopez would of celebrated his 14th birthday. Instead, his family continues to fight for justice. There is an epidemic happening in our streets where police officers continue to criminalize and terrorize our black and brown community members. Continue to demand that the DA prosecute Sheriff Deputy Erick Gelhaus for his crime. PLEASE SHARE!!!!!

Most people give the homeless change or leftovers, Mark Bustos is cutting their hair

For the past few months, New York City hairstylist Mark Bustos — who normally spends his days working at an upscale salon — has been volunteering on his days off to offer haircuts to homeless people he sees on the street. With a simple phrase, “I want to do something nice for you today,” he has been helping people get a fresh, uplifting makeover.

For people who have been trapped in a cycle of poverty, unemployment and homelessness, the makeover can also serve a useful function: looking presentable for a job.

Inspiring thanks he received from one man | Follow micdotcom
